This totally free blogsite Make Money Use Internet does not cost me a cent, yet it makes me money every month. But doesn't having Internet and a computer cost money? Yes, but I have Internet and a computer anyway. I use the Internet to do some research for the work I do from home, for watching YouTube videos, for visiting FaceBook, and so on.
So how does this free blogsite make me money and how much money does it make me?
Even though it's been 6 months since I last added a new blog post (a blog post is an article just like this one is) I still earn money from this site each month.
I got this site and started adding articles to it in January 2011. Let's have a look at how many articles I added to it each month, and the amounts I earned at the end of each month:
January 2011 --- 15 articles --- R25.13
(20 January 2012 currently $3.15)
February 2011 --- 2 articles --- R41.42 ($5.19)
March 2011 --- 3 articles --- R52.06
April 2011 --- 1 article --- R36.72
May 2011 --- 2 articles --- R55.01 ($6.91)
June 2011 --- 0 --- R77.81
July 2011 --- 1 article --- R34.09
August 2011 --- 0 --- R97.69 ($11.88)
September 2011 --- 0 --- R64.57
October 2011 --- 0 --- R110.81 ($13.91)
November 2011 --- 0 --- R187.11 ($23.48)
December 2011 --- 0 --- R84.69
Today is the 20th of January 2011 and my earnings have been R34.02 ($4.27) so far this month
Total earnings since I started this site nearly 13 months ago:
R901.13 ($113.13)
Hm, now imagine if I'd bothered to add more than just 24 articles over the last 13 months. Of course earnings may fluctuate, but I still very much think my earnings would have been considerably greater had I bothered to add more articles. I still can add more articles, though (here's one right now)
These earnings may not seem like much to you, but what I find so great is how little work I had to do to earn it. It's passive income - look at the earnings for November 2011 --- R187.11. What did I do with this site that month to earn that amount? Nothing! - the work had already been done when I wrote and added articles at an earlier time.
R901.13 could also be called the amount I was paid to write 24 articles and add them to this blog - that's about R37.54 ($4.71) an article - not too bad - and, if I didn't add another article to this site in 2012, and my earnings averaged out roughly the same each month as they did in 2011, then at the end of 2012 I would have earned a total of about R1 802.26 ($226.28) (or about R75.08 ($9.42) per article for those 24 articles)
But because I think simply writing and adding more articles often can increase my monthly earnings, I'm going to try and find the time to do that more often rather than wait another year to earn another R900.
Maybe, just maybe, had I added 72 articles in 2011 instead of just 24, my earnings may have tripled. And if I think about it, 72 articles in a year is only 6 articles a month - not too much work. What if I'd added 20 articles a month?
How did I earn this money?
I got a Google Adsense account. I'm an Adsense publisher. I have Google Adwords displaying on some of my sites and when these ads are clicked when a visitor to my sites wants to know more about what that ad is saying, I earn a small commission.
Making money with Google adsense is not as easy as it may seem, and there are rules to follow too, but I find that it's worth putting in the effort to know and follow the rules, and to write and add some articles, as well as pay a little attention to SEO and linking to my articles from other sites, to enable me to make some passive income from the articles I write and publish on my sites.

Disclaimer:
You may not earn the same as I have with the example I have given. Adding 24 articles to your own blog may earn you a little more, or a little less.
I used a currency converter on the 20th of January 2012 to check what the US dollar amounts were for the South African rand amounts mentioned in this article. These converted amounts (for the US dollar amount) may not still be exactly the same at the time that you read this article.

My Individual Sites Adsense Earnings
Looking through this site's traffic sources stats just now, I noticed that somebody found this site by using the search term "highest adsense earning sites." Now I don't know if they were looking for personal sites or sites like online writing sites that they could join.
Read Write for Money on a Writing Site or On Your Own Site? (an article on this site) to see why I generally prefer writing for my own sites when it comes to making money online from writing. I do also write a bit for online writing sites though, and cannot yet make up my mind if I should try spend more time on it, or less time. In other words I'm not really all that happy with the earnings I've so far made from online writing sites, and I am unsure if it is worth the risk of spending time doing it more just to find out if it will eventually work for me - because while I devoted more time to online writing sites, I will have far less time available to increase my Google Adsense earnings on my own sites - which are so far earning me a higher Google Adsense income, by far.
My sites that earn me the most Adsense income are the sites where I have a domain registered and the site is hosted. My unique domain name own sites. Although Tony and I do offer domain registration and website hosting services, no, I'm not trying to sell you any of our services. I'm just telling you like it is, for me - it may be different for you - perhaps you are doing, or could be doing, very well indeed with free to join online writing sites or totally free sites like this Blogger blog you're on now.
This page will also serve as something for me to look back over, in time, to see how my individual sites' earnings are improving or are doing (compared to how they were doing now).
Adsense earnings of our various sites, over the last 4 months (Jan 2011 to April 2011):
1pic4twenty.co.za
Jan R342.70 (currently about $52.08 or 32.22 GBP)
Feb R511.50

April R492.53 (currently about $74.85 or 44.86 GBP)

Profit of Adsense earnings from this site for 2011 = R5 049.08 (or $767.48 or 46.01 GBP)
(more than 9 times my yearly money investment.)

April R455.28

My hosting and domain registration costs of this site for 2011 = R313. (Would have been slightly less, but I added a blog to the site 2 months ago, needing more hosting space, so it pushed my hosting cost up.)
Profit of Adsense earnings from this site for 2011 = R4 480.04
(more than 14 times my yearly money investment.)
onlinefleamarket.co.za

March R59.45
April R124.08
Average monthly Adsense earnings over the past 4 months = R66.85 x 12 to get a rough idea of Adsense earnings for the whole of 2011 = R802.20
My hosting and domain registration costs of this site for 2011 = R313.
Profit of Adsense earnings from this site for 2011 = R489.12
(more than 1 and a half times times my yearly money investment.)
makemoneywritingonline.co.za
Jan R72.90
Feb R3.05
March R62.47
April R42.61
Average monthly Adsense earnings over the past 4 months = R45.25 x 12 to get a rough idea of Adsense earnings for the whole of 2011 = R543.
My hosting and domain registration costs of this site for 2011 = R193. (I may add a blog to this site but not just yet, as that would increase my cost of R193 per year to R313 per year.)
Profit of Adsense earnings from this site for 2011 = R350.
(more than 1 and a half times times my yearly money investment.)
It is obvious to me, from the above calculations, that I need to add quite a bit more content to those last two sites - and also work more at marketing the sites.
I have a few other sites too, but they're either too new to include in this report just yet, or I have not yet had the time to add lots of articles to them. I'm not reporting on my overall Adsense earnings from all my sites here, or the costs of all my sites here, just individual sites.
I sometimes take a chance at getting a new site live on the Internet before I have much content to add to it, just so that it's there to tempt me to add content whenever I get the chance. This may not always be a good thing to do, because then the cost of all the domain registering and hosting of different sites adds up, and I don't always have the time to often write and add new articles to all my different sites, but it's my choice - and I can afford to risk making these choices only because some of my older sites are already doing reasonably well with Adsense. (Pleasing results, but not yet money to live on - I do other work to cover basic monthly living expenses, like freelance web design and writing, but hope to one day have my Adsense earnings be and mean more to me than just an extra income.)
For your interest, the Adsense earnings of this totally free (no domain registration and site hosting costs) Blogger blog over the last 4 months:
makemoneyuseinternet.blogspot.com
Jan R25.13
Feb R41.42
March R52.06
April R36.72
Note that further above I said yearly money investment - the only costs are domain registration, hosting, and having a computer and Internet connection, BUT there is also the cost of time and effort - writing and adding articles to my sites, and marketing the sites, even if I use free methods to market the sites, it still takes time and effort.
Overall?
I am currently earning about R1 200 per month (or $182.38 or 109.33 GBP) from Adsense (R14 400 per year) but then need to deduct my costs from that - I still make a profit, but the profit can be greater the more time and effort I put into this little money making project of mine.
So, my Adsense earnings may not seem wonderful after all, but I am still making a profit, plus get to advertise services I offer, on my own sites (so, essentially, my profit after costs of domain registration and hosting are not just from Adsense), and am also able to link my sites to each other, easily creating backlinks to all my sites. I can also consider offering direct advertising on some of my sites, or add some affiliate program ads too.
You can see a break down of which other sites (besides my own) my April 2011 total Adsense earnings of R1 297.68 (or $197.71 or 118.53 GBP) came from on this page of my Work From Home South Africa blog - a blog that is part of the Work From Home Ideas website I gave the earnings of further up in this blog post. My Highest Earning Single Adsense Click Yet!
I've had the odd R16 or R17 Adsense click on some of my sites, and that impressed me, but today I had my highest earning single Adsense click yet.
R63 (currently about $9.43)
Couldn't believe it! That's a huge jump from my previous high Adsense clicks - or what I thought was high!
Gosh, now imagine if I had just ten of these kinds of clicks everyday - that would be about R18 000 per month!
- But my highest Adsense earnings month yet was last month - R1 238 (currently about $185) - an amount I'm still very proud of since it's grown so nicely over the months since I started using Adsense, but, still, imagine R18 000 per month instead (currently about $2 697) - hm! (nice!)
Now, what would help is if I knew what ad was clicked that gave me this amazing R63. It wasn't on a particular page that I monitor in my Adsense account, so I don't even have a clue - it was on HubPages, and I have just added the main HubPages link to my Adsense account to check, and haven't added individual pages like I do with some of my sites.
It does give me more hope regards HubPages, and that I'm pleased about, because prior to this fantastic Adsense click I got today, HubPages has not earned me all that much from Adsense since I joined HubPages 9 months ago and published 37 hubs (articles.) In the past 9 months, prior to this one R63 Adsense click, I had only earned R232 (an average of R25.77 per MONTH) on HubPages.
I have been earning much more from using Adsense on my own sites, but this one click will make me sit up a bit and take more notice of HubPages, and other online writing sites too. Why? I pay for hosting and domain registration for many of my own sites, but to make money from online writing sites, all I need is a computer and Internet connection.
When I say I will take more notice of online writing sites, what do I mean? - I mean that it may be worth my while spending a bit more time on marketing my articles on online writing sites, than I have been.
Also, why do I say it would help if I knew which ad had been clicked (who the advertiser was/where the ad linked to) on HubPages, or, at least, the page on which the ad appeared? - well, if I knew this, I could write more articles targetting that site or keywords used in the ad. (Certain Adwords ads are triggered to appear when certain keywords are used.)
For beginners out there - how did I learn these things about Adsense, keywords, using websites or blogs, and about making money writing on online writing sites? I read a lot of free information all over the Internet. I'm self-taught and it did not happen overnight.
If you'd like to make money, use Internet, but you do have to be prepared to read a lot, and learn a lot, and put in the effort.

Online Earnings Report for February 2011
South Africans really can earn money online. I'm a South African, living right here in sunny South Africa, and I earn money online.
I started writing an online earnings report each month from August 2010, so that I can easily refer back to my other reports and see how my online earnings are growing. The reports are also to show South Africans, or anyone wishing to earn money online, that it is possible. The online earnings reports are also to show people that with a bit of time and effort invested, online earnings can grow.
Each one of my earlier reports usually has some other helpful information or advice too, and links to follow for further advice and info. Just about anyone who has a computer and Internet connection can make money online. And sometimes there's no other cost involved. It certainly helps to have your own website or blog or two, but it's not totally required.
My online earnings for August 2010 (6 months ago) were R580.21
You can link to some of my other earlier monthly online earnings reports from my January 2011 online earnings report. January earnings were my previous best. Yeah, that's right, February earnings were higher, even though February 2011 had 28 days in it compared to January's 31 days :)
Okay, let's get to the earnings report for February 2010:
Of my total passive income earnings for February 2011, R980.31 came from Adsense. (Currently about $140.15 according to a currency converter that I used today)
Most of the R980.31 came from Adsense on my own sites, and in particular from sites I have where I pay for hosting and domain registration, and are not totally free sites like this Blogger blog (just over R40 came from this totally free Blogger site and that's not too bad since it is still quite new and does not yet have that much content on it - I have been linking to it quite a bit from my other sites, though, so I'm sure that helps too.)
But my February 2011 Adsense earnings that did not come from my own sites, came from the following sites that are free to join:
HubPages R17.40
Bukisa R2.10
Best-Reviewer R0.28
Triond R0.02
Xomba R0.01
(Total from these sites that are not my own is R19.81)
Total from my 5 Blogger blogs (4 are mine and one is Tony's) (I already mentioned the just over R40 from this free Blogger blog that you're on now (Make Money Use Internet) which is included in this total amount) is R54.77 (This fairly new Make Money Use Internet Blogger blog is obviously doing the best so far.)
So, yeah, my other 5 sites where I pay for hosting and domain registration are definitely so far doing a lot better (and currently easily cover the yearly hosting and domain registration fees, with a good profit thereafter), as their Adsense earnings make up the remaining R905.73 of the total R980.31 Adsense earnings for February 2011. A currency converter, used today, tells me that R905.73 is currently about $129.37
Read about how just one of those 5 sites makes me 18 times a year more than I pay for it.
Right, Adsense earnings report done, so let's move onto my other passive income online earnings to get a bit closer to my grand total for February 2011.
From these sites, all free to join:
Factoidz R13.89
Helium R22.22
Triond R0.83
Redgage R6.95
Constant Content R67.81
Online Earnings Report for February 2011 GRAND TOTAL:
R1078.12
(using a currency converter, today, tells me that's about $154)
South Africans, you can also earn money from Adsense in South Africa, and make money online. Just get started!
One of the nicest things about making passive income online is that, for example, I don't have to do any more work regards this passive income, and I will still earn about R1 000 per month from it.
Spending more time on it, whenever I get the chance to, is of course my plan, as then I can further increase that monthly R1 000.

Adsense Earnings January 2011 Best Ever
South Africans can certainly make money online with Google Adsense. I'm South African and have made money with Google Adsense and am still making money with Google Adsense.
Perhaps the money I make with Google Adsense is not a fortune, but my Adsense earnings have increased over time, and I'm pleased to announce that in January 2011 I had my best ever Adsense earnings month since I started using Adsense on my websites and blogs.
In January 2011 I made R847 with Google Adsense.
Even though this month February 2011 is three days shorter than January 2011, it looks like I might earn more than R847 this month, but even if it just comes close, I'll be happy. I don't have to do any work to earn this roughly R800 per month. I've already done the work, don't have to do anything more concerning trying to make money with Adsense, and will still earn roughly R800 per month from Adsense!
My monthly Adsense earnings were not always R800 per month though - the first few months' earnings were really small, but, slowly, as I've done more work regards it, my monthly Adsense earnings have grown!
So, because I'd like to further increase that monthly R800, I'm not going to stop working at it just yet.
Earning from Google Adsense is not just for other countries like the U.S. because South Africans can earn from Adsense too. I am. I'm self taught, and you can be too.
Read whatever you can about making money blogging and being a Google Adsense publisher, and start making some extra income for yourself!

Do I have to have a website or blog to make money with Adsense?
People are intrigued at the idea of making money with Google Adsense, but then they do not pursue the idea as they think they need a website or blog, and they don't know much about website design or hiring a website designer, or about domain registration and website hosting, or they don't have the money to pay for their own domain name site.
They might also be a bit nervous about getting a totally free site like a Blogger blog, like this one, even though they shouldn't be!
There is an alternative though.
If people can manage to get around their Face Book account, they should pretty easily be able to get around an online writing site. Most online writing sites are free to join.
Some online witing sites share their Adsense earnings with you. If you have an Adsense account, you add your Adsense publisher id number to your writing site account when you sign up, or later, if you want, and you can add articles to the writing site, and earn a percentage of the site's Adsense earnings generated from when people read your content and click on the ads on the same pages as your content.
In other words you are helping the owner or owners of the writing site earn money by providing them with content that trigger the ads to appear, so the writing site owners reward you.
It is also sometimes easier to be accepted by Google Adsense when signing up for a Google Adsense account, if you give your profile URL of a busy writing site you have joined, instead of if you give the URL of your own site that is not yet getting more than 50 visitors a day.
Some writing sites may expect you to have an Adsense account first, but some writing sites allow you to use your profile URL to sign up to Google Adsense. Follow instructions on any writing site you join. Xomba is one writing site that has instructions for you.
The nice thing about being accepted by Google Adsense when signing up for your Adsense account using a writing site URL, is that you can then use the same publisher id to display ads on a site of yours that is not yet getting much traffic. You do not have to have a separate Adsense account for each website or blog you want to display Adsense ads on. You simply add the URL of the site within your Adsense account. Actually, you don't even have to do that to earn; you just add the URL so that you can check from time to time to see if that site is getting traffic, impressions or clicks.
Besides Xomba, some other writing sites that share their Adsense revenue with you are:
HubPages
Triond
Bukisa
A bookmarking site is a site you can use to write just a few words (sometimes as little as 50) about an article you have written elsewhere, and link to it, and some of these bookmarking sites also share their Adsense revenue with you, like She Told Me and Best Reviewer.
